Senior Care Management Serves All Ages

Despite its name, Senior Care Management Inc.'s services are not limited to the elderly. Our capable certified care managers work with any adult in need of assistance, regardless of age. The name of the profession, "Geriatric Care Management" can also be problematic. Our clients don't consider themselves "geriatric," they rarely want "care," and they certainly don't want to be "managed!" Simply put, care managers help with maintaining independence - and that's the best way to describe our services.

Many people find themselves needing to make difficult decisions when they are least capable, due to a new diagnosis or disability. This can be very overwhelming, especially if there are no family members nearby to help. Younger adults who have found our services useful come to us with a wide range of physical and mental health issues. Senior Care Management treats our younger clients with as much care and professionalism as we're known for with our elderly population.

A critical aspect of maintaining independence is coordinating and understanding health issues. Calling the care manager a "Health Advocate," provides a clearer picture of our mandate. The Health Advocate attends the doctor appointments with the client and makes sure the client understands what transpires and that questions are fully addressed. Many people are reluctant to question the doctor. We know that questions help with understanding and are essential. The Health Advocate also assists with the follow through needed with lab work, prescriptions, and subsequent appointments. The physicians also appreciate this aspect of our work.

We also can communicate and coordinate, relieving the client of the stress of keeping everything straight. In addition, when requested, designated family members receive a concise, professional report as to what went on in the doctor's office and the follow up care that the care manager will provide. This gives the family members relief that their loved one is well taken care of.
