Care Management Certification
By Betsy Evatt, LCSW, CMC
We are pleased to announce
that April Hayter de Lopez has earned her certification as a
care manager (CMC). Now, the entire staff of Senior Care
Management holds the CMC certification.
One problem that confronts the
profession of care management is that anyone can call themself a
"care manager." When consumers seek a "professional care
manager" it is important to inquire about certification. The
National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Mangers (NAPGCM)
recognizes several certifications because our profession is
comprised of several disciplines.
Senior Care Management has chosen
to certify ourselves through the National Academy of Certified
Care Managers (NACCM) because the Academy has the most rigorous
criteria for certification. To be eligible to sit for the exam,
the care manager must have a Master's Degree in an appropriate
field and must have an equivalent of two years of supervised
care management work experience. The combination of education
and work experience is the only method of preparing for the exam
that then confers the CMC on the candidate.
April and Betsy also maintain
their license as clinical social workers (LCSW.) The LCSW is a
California state license that requires a master degree in social
work, supervised clinical hours in the field and a challenging
exam. It is our feeling that the well-trained social work staff
of Senior Care Management offers the most qualified background
available to assist our clients.
We are proud of April's successful
navigation of the CMC process.
